“Gamera is a giant, flying turtle from a popular series of  kaiju (Japanese giant monster) films produced by Daiei Motion Picture Company in Japan. Gamera made his first appearance in 1965′s Gamera, which was also the only Gamera film to be in black-and-white. Subsequent films, usually directed by Noriaki Yuasa and written by Nisan Takahashi, quickly became a big hit with children, who loved watching Gamera fight monsters. A seventh sequel was slated for a 1972 release, tentatively titled Gamera vs. Garasharp. Gross mismanagement of Daiei, however, put the company into bankruptcy, and the Gamera films were forced to cease production. After Daiei was purchased by Tokuma Shoten in 1974, the new management wanted to do a new Gamera film in 1980, so Gamera: Super Monster was produced. The majority of the film used stock footage (with limited new scenes of Gamera flying), and acted as a “recap” of Gamera’s history. However, Yuasa and Takahashi felt that they had done all they could with the monster, so they respectfully killed off Gamera at the end of the film.

Height 60-80 metres
Weight 80-120 tons

Gamera’s shell is extremely resilient and strong. Missiles and other weaponry merely bounce off it, along with most of his opponents’ attacks. There have been a few times where his shell has faltered, most notably when the alien Guiron hammered at the same spot several times and began cutting through. The flying monster Gyaos’ sonic beam, the alien shark Zigra’s paralyzing beam, and the mutant lizard Barugon’s rainbow ray cannot penetrate Gamera’s shell, shown in the films when he withdraws into his shell to avoid the attacks. Gamera’s underbelly, however, is softer and not as resilient, and he has been cut and gouged in his stomach to the point of bleeding.” (www.wikipedia.com, accessed March ’10)

The first time that I’ve ever knew Gamera was in 1995 by Hobby Japan magazine. It was showing some photos for ‘the making of Gamera’, I really liked the scenes and how fine their work was, the color, the features and the background/surroundings of the artificial scenes. The idea of making a turtle as a giant monster is it self cool and I liked how powerful turtles can be! yes and they can even defeat dinosaurs!!! Now I feel like I wanna raise a giant turtle Gamera!

”Walkman is a Sony brand originally used for portable audio cassette, and now used to market Sony’s portable audio and video players as well as a line of its mobile phones. The original Walkman introduced a change in music listening habits by allowing people to carry music with them.

The device was built in 1978 by audio-division engineer Nobutoshi Kihara for Sony co-chairman Akio Morita, who wanted to be able to listen to operas during his frequent trans-Pacific plane trips. The original Walkman was marketed in 1979 as the Walkman in Japan, the Soundabout in many other countries including the US, Freestyle in Sweden and the Stowaway in the UK. Morita hated the name “Walkman” and asked that it be changed, but relented after being told by junior executives that a promotion campaign had already begun using the brand name and that it would be too expensive to change.” (Wikipedia, accessed 03/’10)

Now this is nothing with the tv documentary that I’ve watched on NHK in ’09. It was an interview with the designer on how and why the first two designs of Sony walkman were created. Sony = Legacy and whatever I’ve seen/watched/read/heard about it  really showed me why Sony Walkman was copied by the fruit co.!  I’m not defending Sony ‘cos it’s Japanese, again, I’m not Japanese, but the quality, the features, colors, materials..etc. of the Japanese products are always unbeatable, just see how cool the 80s’ WM-2 walkman is!

I don’t wanna discuss the lack of MDs and LDs in our market here, that most probably will need an entire post to be expressed well…

PC-FX  is a video game console from NEC that was released in Japan in ’94 with a 32-bit CPU. It plays CD-ROMs, it comes with a keypad and a mouse, there is a memory expansion too! I’ve first knew about it in ’94 from Japanese videogame magazines and I was attracted mostly by its anime-style video games. No 3D  games were developed for PC-FX though ‘cos they have just rushed into releasing it early as 3DO was already in market. It was only sold in Japan and almost no one knew about it ‘cos it was knocked out by 3DO and Playstation1 besides most of its games are based on Japanese dialogues. When I was in Japan in ’03 I’ve found it in Akihabara “electric town” but its games are very hard to find so I didn’t get it, now I’m reconsidering buying it again! Oh by the way, there are around 3 or 4 PC emulators for it! but still I wanna get the console it self, I like electronish-antiques!

“The Tokyo Sky Tree, or the New Tokyo Tower is a broadcasting tower currently under construction in Sumida, Tokyo, Japan. It will be the tallest artificial structure in Japan at 610.58m (2,003 ft) tall. The present Tokyo Tower (333 m) is insufficient in height  for a digital terrestrial television broadcasting coverage since the construction of many high rise buildings in the central part of the metropolis.

The plan is being led by Tobu Railway and a group of six terrestrial broadcasters, led by the public broadcaster NHK. The tower is planned to be completed by December 2011, to open to the public in Spring 2012.”

Inshallah I’m planning to visit this tower which will be located just by the Sumida river, beautiful sceneries can be observed there!! Can’t wait to fly from the Tokyo Sky Tree!! :D
